What is unfair dismissal?

Unfair dismissal is a statutory right giving employees with one year's service the right to complain to a tribunal that they have not been treated fairly or reasonable by their employer.

If you have not been made redundant but have been unfairly dismissed, an employment tribunal may award compensation. In some circumstances, an Employment Tribunal can find automatic unfair dismissal to which there is no defence and which prescribes an uplift of compensation by up to 50%.
